Google Adsense was, for quite a while, the only game in town when it came to advertising contextually. Recently, however, things have changed and many people are seeking alternatives to Adsense. You should be willing to explore the alternatives, no matter what your status with Adsense currently is. You may have heard about Yahoo's Publisher Network, and you may have even applied to be a part of it. Even though people signed on with them, there was never any kind of confirmation or reply message. Yes, the three largest search engines often copy from each other which is something we feel is highly uncreative, but nonetheless they can do that. YPN seems to be a simply copy of Google Adsense, and considering past performance will also be just as restrictive. That is if it ever officially goes live and launches. Yahoo Publisher Network seems to have been in Beta for quite some time. It will not hurt to apply to YPN, but maybe you should wait to see if it ever goes live.
FastClick/ValueClick is an attractive alternative to Adsense, however it is not for everybody because they do not want everybody. You can only work with this company if your site gets a certain amount of traffic. If you have a new site, then, or one that's smaller, this option isn't open to you. This is something you should consider, though, if you have an authority site that gets a high volume of visitors. If never hurts to apply. If they do deem your site worthy, however, you'll be in the position to have profitable ads on your site.
