Booking Last Minute Vs Planning In Advance Holidays

Although most holidays are planned well in advance of the eventual departure date, there are advantages to booking at the last minute as well. Depending on where you are going, in can sometimes be best to plan ahead, and sometimes wait until the very last minute before booking the break to your chosen destination.

Some people are set in their ways and will only book their holiday at the same time every year, without even considering that they could find a cheaper deal by booking at an alternative time. Sometimes this is fine but unfortunately it is no way to pick up the very best deal.

Let's look at some of the pros and cons of booking in advance and leaving it until the last minute, starting with booking ahead:

You have more time to prepare. This means you can pack what you need, make sure you have everything you need to take and have the appropriate vaccinations if these are required.

You can organise your schedule, including work and personal life, around the holiday dates.

Prices can go down depending on when you book, so you can often pay more for booking too in advance.

If circumstances change or an emergency pops up near the time you planned to go on holiday, it can be hard to get your money back.

Now let's look at booking at the last minute:

You can find some great bargains by doing it this way.

There is a sense of adventure as you don't know until you search for your holiday where you will end up going.
You can plan your time off ahead and then find a trip to fit into this time.

Sometimes your options can be limited however, as there may only be a couple of cheap deals to destinations that you may not like to go on.

You can't put as much thought into what you want to do when you're at your destination and have to 'go with the flow' somewhat.

Of course, it all comes down to personal preference and everyone will have different opinions about what is best and what works for them. However, keeping an open mind can certainly pay off when you want to save some money on your next holiday.
