Husky Dog Training - A Few Essential Tips

There're a few things you'll want to keep in mind before doing Husky dog training. You should start early, offer positive reinforcement, and be consistent. If you can follow these suggestions, you will be able to train your Husky effectively and encounter less frustration.

The first thing in Husky dog training is to start early when you initially bring him home. Be sure to establish house rules and make it clear that you're the leader. In addition, get your puppy accustomed to being handled. By doing so, it will teach him to obey you. Beginning early also means that you need to never encourage any undesirable behaviors ever, including during day one. For example, do not allow him to chew on your slippers just because you think it is cute. You have to teach him what's acceptable and what isn't at the beginning, meaning never allowing him to get away with chewing on your slippers. If you begin Husky dog training from early on, you'll find that things will go much smoother than if you were to wait a couple of weeks or months before beginning.

In addition to starting training early, you must also focus on positive reinforcement. The concept behind positive reinforcement is simple -- you are to reward your puppy with treats or compliments for any good behaviour, while ignoring bad behavior. Huskies are a lot more receptive to positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement, especially when it's coming from his leader (you). This also means you should have good faith in your puppy by expecting desirable behavior and treat him with respect. Huskies don't respond well to punishment or shouting, which is also another reason to use positive reinforcement. By using positive reinforcement, you will be promoting good behavior, but you must also be consistent with it.

One of the more important aspects of Husky dog training is consistency. Being consistent means starting from day one. If you don't want your Husky on the couch, don't ever let him on the couch. Letting him on the couch sometimes, but not other times will only confuse him more. Make sure that everyone in the household also knows the rules for your Husky and make sure that everybody is consistent with following through with them. This will prevent mixed messages from being sent to your Husky. If you are able to be consistent with your puppy, it will go a long way towards successful training.

Husky dog training can certainly be frustrating if you take the incorrect approach to it. However it can be done if you start early, provide positive reinforcement, and be consistent. If you apply these tips, you will see that training your Husky isn't an insurmountable task.
