How To Order Long Run Printed Stationery
|
Nowadays every Tom, Dick and Harry has a colour inkjet printer sitting on their desk and so when it comes to printing out a few letterheads as one-offs there maybe little need to consider contacting your printing company.
But that all changes if you need to get tens-of-thousands or even hundreds-of-thousands of letterheads, brochures, leaflets, compliments slips or business cards printed. Now you’ll need the services of a long run printed stationery company. Here is where a bit of knowledge will provide you with a better printed stationery product and a better deal.
Not all long run stationery printing companies are created equally.
In order to produce both high quality and low pricing with long run printed stationery you will need to find a printing company who have large format printing presses.
In the UK most printers use presses which are B2 size. That means that they will fit 4 sheets of A4 next to each other on a large sheet. These are then cut up so that you receive A4 paper back as your letterhead. Compliment slips are smaller (typically 3 out of an A4) and so you’ll get three times as many compliments slips out of an B2 sheet of paper and so on.
However, in order to really get the economies of scale you’ll want to find a printing company who use B1 printing presses. The B1 format is twice the size of B2, meaning that your printer can fit 8 pages of A4 letterhead on a single B1 sheet of paper.
Why does any of this matter to you?
The answer is that it is a much more cost effective way for you to order long run printed stationery.
That single sheet of B1 paper only has to travel through the printing press once and you’ll immediately have 8 A4 letterheads and a staggering 24 compliments slips once they are cut down to size!
So if you need to order a long run of printed stationery then find a printer who can print on B1 sheets of paper and you will find it much cheaper.
And to give you even more knowledge for the moment when you contact your printing company; the best B1 printing press is a Heidelberg 102 Speedmaster. This machine is enormous and ideally suited to long run printed stationery. So if you really want to sound like you know what you’re talking about when requesting your long run printed stationery quote - ask the printers whether they use a 102 printing press. They’ll think you are in the print business!
