Could couple benefit from storage solutions?

A writer has revealed that her small one-bedroom home is too full of her possessions, potentially meaning she could benefit from more storage solutions - such as shelves.

Writing in the National, Hala Khalaf noted that when her teenage brother came to stay in the home she shares with her husband, it made her realise they have too much clutter.

She said that having her sibling in the property enabled her to see she has not allocated her spouse enough space to keep his things in.

In such situations, consumers may benefit from investing in a range of storage solutions. As well as shelves, there are cabinets, trunks and lockers, among other things.

The issue with space came to light when Ms Khalaf's husband - who she refers to simply as Mr T - was given a spare laptop bag by her brother.

At this point, she asked her other half if he had given another laptop bag back in return.

Mr T replied by stating: "Well, no. Why would I? He doesn't want any of them."

Ms Khalaf duly retorted with: "I thought you would exchange one of yours with his new one. I mean, come on, you have to get rid of one, it's too much clutter."

To this, her spouse stated: "Clutter? My laptop bags, the only thing I own in your entire closet, next to your 64 - yes, I counted - handbags in various sizes and colours, are now clutter?"

The writer and her husband are not along in their plight. Many couples live in spaces they wish were bigger and, partly as a result of the stringent requirements on mortgages in place at present, some are having to cope with cramped conditions.

In such circumstances, having sensible areas in which to deposit items so they are out of the way can be beneficial.
