Storage racks get gold star from Alliance Healthcare

A new storage racks system installed at Alliance Healthcare’s distribution centre has been making things a lot easier for employees recently.
Known as Carton Live Storage, the storage racks installed by BITO make order picking both easier and more accurate for workers, which is crucial for the company as it makes big deliveries to pharmacies and hospitals up and down the country.
The distribution centre has storage for over 9500 medical products and with a floor space measuring in at 56,000 square feet, being able to pick orders quickly and accurately is very high on the agenda.
The new way that items are dispensed for delivery is quicker as it uses an A Frame structure which is a unit that is made up of rows of dispensing channels that hold vertical stacks of the most popular products.
Before this new system was in place, packing away goods was also a very time consuming task as they needed to be decanted before being put onto the picking shelves. However, now the new cartons and bins of stock coming in can be put on the racks without having to be unpacked which saves employees a lot of time and unwanted hassle.
Speaking to NHW Magazine, Alliance Healthcare project manager, Jeremy Humpage is very pleased with the new system now in place as it will help speed up the whole distribution process.
He said: “ Carton live storage is the most suitable system for use with fast moving products and automation.
“It has been tailored to our requirements.”
Alliance Healthcare was formed in 2007 after the Commercial Affairs division of Boots PLC was rebranded.
