Using storage 'could help improve people's moods'

De-cluttering a house using storage solutions may help improve the mood of householders, it has been suggested.

According to Tammy Livingston, Phyllis Wessner and Wyntir Tunaley - who are three generations of family members responsible for 3 G's Clutter Cleaners - getting rid of unwanted items from living spaces can have positive psychological effects, wickedlocal.com reports.

As well as putting items in storage racks and other places for safekeeping, consumers should consider throwing some of their belongings out or giving them away, Ms Livingston said.

She remarked: "Things taking up space or not being used should be thrown out or donated. You could even have a yard sale and make a little money doing so ... You will find that de-cluttering is not as hard as you thought it would be."

Children are among those who can benefit from the presence of storage solutions in a home, the expert added.

She said their rooms should be checked twice a year for excess items that can be put away or thrown out.

She went on to state: "Put toys in toy boxes or storage bins. Have a basket or hamper for dirty clothes."

Ms Livingston also advised homeowners to get some storage racks or other similar items to house things that are not being used on a daily basis.

She remarked: "Once you have everything de-cluttered and organised, remember to keep everything in its place and your home will remain organised and clutter-free."

Getting rid of excess items spread around the home and placing them out of the way may also help people who are attempting to sell their residences, since mess is likely to put potential buyers off.

This could be particularly relevant now because of the slow housing market conditions affecting the UK and other parts of the world.
