Shelving units with a difference for city library
|
A city library has received new shelves from a member of the Boy Scout Troop 1380.
Eighteen year old, Tim Zygmunt and member of the Scouts club in Lincoln decided to build a shelving unit for the city Library.
Working together with other members of the Boy Scouts and other adults, Tim spent a lot of time working on the shelves before making the important decision on where they should be installed.
Before settling on the children's book section of the city library, Tim visited other potential locations in Lincoln.
Speaking to The News Herald the Lincoln Park High School pupil explains: " As I met with the librarians, they both suggested to me that their children's book space was very messy and disorganised due to the overflow of how many children's books they have."
Tim now hopes that the new units, which were installed at the end of September, will now benefit children visiting the library with their parents.
A number of designs were submitted to the library before settling on a final decision to place eight units on top of the existing shelves in the library.
Each of the units measures in at 16 inches in height and it took a period of five months for the whole project to be completed.
The units were designed as part of a project that may see Tim move from being a Life Scout to the higher level of Eagle Scout.
Also speaking to The News Herald, Tim's father Ed explained that the project had been engineered to help his son achieve a higher status level within the Scouts.
He said: "His primary role of becoming Eagle Scout was leadership and now he has to go before a board of review who will decide if he is worthy of becoming an Eagle Scout."
