E commerce, or i-commerce has been called the “New Global Economy.” It is short for “electronic commerce,” and covers all retail and wholesale trading of goods and services by digital or online means. This includes buying and selling on the global and mobile internet via websites, as well as direct access text alerts on mobile phones.
The growth of e-commerce has been outstanding. Rather than taking over from traditional retail methods, it sits comfortably alongside them – often sharing the same platform. As well as pure e commerce sites, for example eBay and Amazon, high street traders have e commerce sites too.
