Britain no longer depends so much on coal for energy. Gas and oil extraction have become increasingly important industries due to the remoteness of dwindling supplies of natural resources. Nuclear power has never made more than a modest contribution to UK energy production.

Smart businesses can opt to either try to exploit these variations to the best of their abilities or protect themselves against the negative impact of these volatile prices.
