The Best Eczema Treatment: Keep The Skin Moisturized

Skin dryness often describes eczema or dermatitis. What is usually referred to, when people talk about eczema is atopic dermatitis. However, other types of eczema that manifests similar symptoms. Common among the types of eczema is dry skin that either turns in to itchy rashes or in oozing blisters. Whatever the type of eczema you might have, it is important that you first consult with a dermatologist for a clear diagnosis. This initial consultation is necessary to rule out any other skin diseases or ailments you might have. When you have a definite diagnosis, you can start looking for a safe and effective eczema treatment that would work for you. While there are no known cures for atopic dermatitis, there are ways of controlling the appearance of these irritating and unsightly skin patches.

The best eczema treatment is actually to keep the skin moisturized at all times . It is easy enough to do this on your own. But, you have to be careful in choosing the products that you use in order to trap the moisture in your skin. There are harsh products that could make your skin condition worse. If your skin is producing too much oil, you have to make sure that the product that you choose does not seal the oil in. This would result in even more serious skin irritations as oil plugs form into nodules that would require another form of treatment. Again, the right diagnosis is necessary so that you know exactly what kind of skin condition you are dealing with. Your dermatologist would be able to give you recommendations as to the moisturizers and emollients that would be ideal for your skin type.

Preventing dry skin as an eczema treatment could be achieved by following a few simple guidelines. Here are some tips on how you can keep your skin moisturized and prevent dry skin:

Avoid hot showers. Extreme heat can deplete your skin of the hydration it needs. Make sure that the water coming out of your shower or sitting on your bath is warm and not hot. After you bathe, you can apply a layer of emollient on your damp skin to prevent the evaporation of water from your skin.

Use only mild skin care products. Harsh chemicals cause the skin to be dry . There are soaps and washes that are hypoallergenic. Remember too, that there are non-skin care products that could have harsh chemicals that get in contact with your skin. These include fragrances and detergents.

Wear comfortable breathable clothing. Wrapping up in tight-fitting clothing will do nothing to keep the moisture in your skin. What will likely happen is that your skin will lose moisture as it sweats . Sweat that gets trapped between your clothing and your skin is a haven for bacterial infestation that could irritate your skin.

Stick to healthy habits. Make sure that you drink more than the required amount of fluids to keep your body hydrated at all times. Everybody knows too that a highly stressful lifestyle causes dry skin. Getting enough sleep and eating a healthy diet can give your skin the nutrition it needs to maintain healthy moisture levels.

Do not scratch. While this does not really have to do with keeping your skin moisturized, stopping yourself from scratching is an important eczema treatment advice you should not forget that if you are to prevent your atopic dermatitis from getting worse. Scratching could cause your skin to get further irritated and become infected.
