The Birth of Online Strategy Games

The history of online strategy games is quite broad. The first type of strategic applications is basically a puzzle type, which has evolved into a more complex design. The beginning of strategy games originated from Chess and Go or the Chinese version of chess. As the years progressed, new versions of computer applications have been released. There were games, which were released from earlier consoles such as the Atari. Most of the strategy games before relied on a limited number of characters that can be controlled and deployed by each player. After various releases in a different console, there were strategy applications released for Personal Computers . The first was the Command and Conquer series released by Westwood. Since most players are looking for a one on one match, new versions were released. After a couple of years, LAN or Local Area Network was introduced. This type of gaming involves a couple of PCs connected to a network, which is then connected to the server. The server controls all the format , maps and characters in the game.

After the success of the first strategy game giants, there was the creation of new virtual world consoles. Companies from around the world created their version of online strategy games. Most simulations were based on different characters, clans and races, virtual applications which are focused on amazing creatures such as orcs, ogres and elves. There were online giants, which focused on military gaming and strategic warfare. There are also other applications, which are centered on strange one-eyed monsters, wolves, vampires and other creatures of the night. Today, a lot of online strategy games are free online. Most of the games are free to use while others are for membership use. In order to play most online simulations, web surfers would need to register to a specific site designed and hosted by the company which created the online application. Members would then need to acquire a membership card or an item card for special promotions.

As the realm of online strategy games enhances, new versions of simulations and user interface were introduced. There are now applications, which focus on a single hero control. This feature is seen in most strategic games wherein a player would not only control an army but also a single character, which has certain abilities that other soldiers, do not have. For instance, most virtual worlds have a commander type of character, which has an amazing ability to easily destroy other characters. The hero control depends on the type of online game and the theme of the game. Most online games have characters that control fire while in other games, while some of the characters that can use explosive devices or ferocious weapons. Some Strategy plays have a certain character that has a mind ability to control other characters. Again, all the special abilities or characters on the virtual world would depend on the type of strategy game, which is offered online. Some applications might have a very realistic army theme while other games might have an alien type of theme.
