THE TOP 10 XBOX 360 GAMES

The current top ten games for the Xbox 360 console are “Final Fantasy XIII”, “Splinter Cell: Conviction”, “Crackdown 2”, “Halo: Reach”, “Mass Effect 2”, “Bioshock 2”, “Red Dead Redemption”, “Bayonetta”, “Dead Rising 2” and “Alan Wake”.
“Final Fantasy XIII” is the latest in the phenomenally popular “Final Fantasy” series, and is a role playing game released in the US this year (last year in Japan). Selling over five and a half million copies all over the world, it is the fastest selling title in the long running series and has received rave reviews from the majority of the most respected video game sites and magazines.
“Splinter Cell: Conviction” is an exclusive Xbox 360 release that is the fifth release in the “Splinter Cell” franchise. Gaining very positive reviews from most critics – 9.3 (out of 10) from IGN, who also awarded the game their “IGN.com Editor’s Choice Award, and 8/10 from both Edge Magazine and GameSpot.com.
“Crackdown 2”, released July 2010, is the sequel to the original 2007 “Crackdown”, and is another entry in the popular “Shooter” genre of games, this time played in the third person and in the “sandbox” open world format. “Crackdown 2” received only mixed reviews from the gaming community, with GameSpot awarding it 7/10, Giant Bomb giving it 3/5 but Destructoid slamming the game as having “no real reason to exist” and giving it a poor rating of just 4.5/10.
“Halo: Reach” is the latest (and supposedly last) in the long running “Halo” franchise, from acclaimed developer Bungie and set to be released exclusively on the Xbox 360 in September, and is definitely one of the year’s most anticipated – and hyped – releases.
“Mass Effect 2” is the action packed sequel to the original “Mass Effect” game. Released in the January of 2010, “Mass Effect 2” was both a smash commercial hit and a critical darling, receiving 9/10 and 5/5 reviews from almost all of the respected computer review magazines and web sites, with Hardcore Gamer describing it as
“an amazing game from start to finish”.
“Bioshock 2”, released February 2010, is the sequel to the original 2007 “Bioshock” and is another in the popular “Shooter” genre of video games, played in the first person. Set in the fictional city of Rapture in a dystopian alternate universe, the game was a big success – particularly on the Xbox 360, where it rated number one in the sales charts on its first month of release, and has received a warm critical reception, with most of the respected game review magazines and web sites awarding it scores of 9/10 and 5/5.
“Red Dead Redemption” is an action adventure game set in the old West, played in the “sandbox” open world format. Released in May 2010, the game received a rapturous reception from both traditional game reviewers and the mainstream media, with even The New York Times joining in the chorus of praise, calling it a “tour de force”. In just its first two months of release, “Red Dead Redemption” had sold over two million copies.
“Bayonetta” is an original action game released in the US in January 2010 (2009 in Japan). Selling over a million units all around the world, critical reviews have been favorable, with much praise given to the game’s fast pace and easy to learn controls.
“Dead Rising 2” is a zombie-themed action horror sequel to the original “Dead Rising”, set for release in September 2010. The sequel is set five years after the events of the original, and advances in technology mean that there will be a considerably greater number of the undead for players to battle in the sequel.
“Alan Wake” is a game designed as a psychological thriller and considered innovative for it’s movie-like storytelling and character development. Released in May 2010, the game received mixed reviews, from those impressed by the innovation to those disappointed by the “simplistic” game-play style, and sales were relatively low.
