Clinical Research forms an important part of drug development cycle having quite a number of areas to work on. Before we proceed to discuss the job opportunities available in clinical research, we should make an attempt to define the term in the first place. Now, by clinical research what is meant is that it is a field in which several studies are performed in a scientific environment. The studies include the investigation of drugs, the effect of certain medical devices on human individuals and related biological issues. Basically, the research is performed by the students of life sciences.
The two primary jobs related to clinical research is the job of Clinical Research Associate and the job of a Clinical Research Coordinator. The progress of a clinical trial is monitored and administered by a Clinical Research Associate. The job of the Clinical Research Coordinator, as the name implies, is co-ordination of the trial at the spot of the experiment or investigation.
The other significant person who has to be present when the research is being performed is the Doctor or the Investigator. The doctor is responsible for the study that is being worked upon. He has to bear the responsibilities associated with the rights, welfare and the health of the subjects who are being involved in the study.
Apart from the above mentioned personalities who are mandatory in the performance of the research, there are a few other works as well that requires the hand of professionals. Scientific Writers are essential for the preparation of documents. The analysis of the data, which is collected from the trail process, is handled by a Biostatistician who has knowledge of mathematics as well. The maintenance of the quality in the conduct of the trail is in the shoulders of a Quality Analyst. Data management is handled by a Data Manager. The role of a Data Entry Operator is the transference of the data collected from the trail to a database for future requirements. The role of a Data Validator is to ensure that the data, which is collected and recorded, is accurate.
These job opportunities are available either in pharmaceutical companies or in clinical research organizations who hire the researchers on a contract basis. |
