Tour Australian Cellar Doors to Find the Best White Wines

Australia is a popular tourist destination for many different reasons such as the lovely climate, the ocean and activities that are popular such as scuba diving and snorkeling, and the animals. However, one thing that many people don't take into account when going to Australia is the multiple different types of wine that are available. One popular activity that many people end up doing when they go to visit Australia or even live there is taking a tour of the wine cellars that are prevalent in the different areas.

Although the name is white wine the colors of the wine can vary from a clear to a yellow and even the possibility to have an orange tint. The colors depend on the types of grape that are used to make the wine which is mainly dependent upon the climate of the region where the grapes were grown. Richer flavors are characteristic of the darker colored wines. There are many different types of white wine that are made in Australia and well known.

The most prevalent type of white wine that can be found in Australia is Chardonnay. It really sprung up as being popular during the 1970's. It can be found inland with very tropical tasting flavors while the cooler areas such as Mornington Peninsula will produce wines that are citrus flavored such as lime and grapefruit. It truly is the most versatile type because it can be found all over.

Muscat is a very sweet wine that can be found in Australia. The grapes need to be matured in order to make the wine after it has already been fermented. It is a tad acidic but it adds to the overall taste and makes it different from the other types of wine that are found in the country. It is made in the north eastern portion of Victoria.

Pinot Gris is a relatively new introduction to the world of wine in Australia. There are two main types of Pinot Gris, the first type is a crisp and simple type that is often enjoyed during the hot summer months and the second is the type that is rich and has a spicy flavor to it. The areas where it can be found are mainly in Tasmania, the Great Western areas, and the Mornington Peninsula of Victoria.

Sauvignon Blanc is another new introduction to the wine culture in Australia. The popularity of it is growing and as a result it is being more widely grown to keep up with the demand. The best type of climate for it not only in Australia but all over the world is the cooler regions. There are many different regions where you can find Sauvignon Blanc due to the ease of growing the grapes which are required for making this kind such as in Tasmania, Yarra Valley, and the Margaret River to name a few. If it is made in a warmer region the wine is a tad more acidic while in cooler regions the taste is more grass like.
