How Monopoly Can Teach You To Earn Money Online...

(Or - All I Needed To Learn About Internet Marketing I Learned From Monopoly)
While the numbers of people who earn money online is quite low - just about everyone reading this post knows how to play Monopoly (at least, those of you who are reading this in English!) The game is a simple one - buy property, develop property by putting houses & hotels on it, and use these properties to make money from the other players. So while actually making money online isn't done by everyone - most everyone know the basics that are needed - if they play Monopoly.
This is a simple concept... you don't make very much 'money' in Monopoly if you don't own any property... of course you'll get your $200 for 'Passing Go' - but the real money is in owning property that others land on. Everyone learns early on that possessing Park Ave, or any of the higher priced properties, and building houses and hotels on that property will quickly make you rich, and your other opponents bankrupt.
So how do you translate this concept to the Internet?
Simple - you will begin to earn more and more money when you develop Internet 'properties'. Without owning any online properties, your ability to earn any money is greatly restricted.
Can you earn money without having any Internet 'properties' (Websites)? Of course you can. Selling products on Ebay is one excellent way to make money without owning any online properties. Many people have made lots of money online without ever owning any 'real estate'... but real estate on the Internet is cheap - and will produce income for many years to come.
When you start to put up websites, and learn how to 'monitize' them with Adsense and Affiliate sales, your earnings will slowly but surely begin to increase, and you'll begin to enjoy a better life with the additional income you'll make. Simple 'minisites' - a website with just 5-10 pages of content - can earn from $50 to $250 every month - on average. What would you do with 10 or 15 websites that are earning you an extra $100 every month?
Nor does it take very long - I can usually put up a simple 5 page website in a weekend of 'work' - and although it will take a few months for it to rise in the SERPS - and start getting enough traffic to earn money - it's money that will continue to come in for years to come with no additional effort.
Now unfortunately, Monopoly won't teach you how to do simple keyword research, purchase hosting, configure Wordpress, simple HTML for formatting your articles, and how to backlink - but these are all relatively simple things to do - and there are many tutorials online to help you get going. (Including right here on BurningKnife.com) The important fundamental understanding is taught by Monopoly - you need real estate to really earn money - and on the Internet, 'real estate' means websites.
So get busy - build some websites - and don't worry about making mistakes - that's how you learn! The more mistakes you make, the faster you'll begin earning extra money online! |
