Road accidents and traffic islands

When using the road, most motorists are acutely aware of the dangers that are presented by other road users and pedestrians. However, roadside objects can cause just as much damage as coming into contact with another vehicle. For instance, many people see traffic islands as a marker of safety – showing them where to direct their car and warning them of an area where pedestrians may be crossing the road.

However, in the event of an accident, hitting a traffic island could cause damage to yourself and your vehicle that you may not have sustained had it not been there. It can also lead to avoidable damage if you are forced to swerve in the road to avoid another obstacle and subsequently have an impact on the traffic island. For those people who have suffered injuries as the result of a car crash with a road traffic island, you could be entitled to make accident claims against your local authority if you have reason to believe the item has been placed in a dangerous position.

Your local authorities have a duty to provide safe and well maintained roads that protect motorists as much as humanly possible. If they fail in this duty of care then you could claim accident compensation for the pain you have suffered and the effect your injuries have had on your lifestyle. A specialist accident claims solicitors firm will be able to advise on the likelihood of the road traffic island either causing the incident itself if you were forced to suddenly and unexpectedly change speed or direction, or if it is dangerously positioned and subsequently increased the severity of your accident.

At Claims Solicitors, we have extensive experience in dealing with all kinds of motoring related traffic claims, including incidents involving road signs such as traffic islands.
