Stay stress free with friends when living overseas

There is much to do when first moving abroad and within the first few weeks of settling in an overseas home. As with moving home in any environment, the process can be extremely stressful and cause anxiety. Having friends around to support and help you can make the difference to the time being a smooth one, or something a little more challenging.

Building a good social network, both with fellow expats and locals is also an important part of continuing a stress free lifestyle, and can help ward off other illnesses. Health problems, which expatriate medical insurance houses say are being dealt with regularly, include constant headaches, loss of concentration and memory, and trouble sleeping.

Being able to call upon a network of good friends and, where possible family, can make a huge difference. However, this is the area where expats tend to struggle most; noticeably with elderly expats who do not command the local language. The lack of language skills can in itself cause panic and anxiety to set in, as daily tasks and living becomes problematic and confusing. At worst, these situations with local proprietors can escalate to confrontation; in turn leading to further health concerns.

Reducing any potential for stress can go a long way to not just making the move easier, but will go a long way to ensuring its success. Sorting finances, learning the language, arranging adequate international healthcare, researching customs and local trends are all well worth investing time and energy into.

Though healthcare abroad is of a high standard in some countries, having good expatriate medical insurance arranged within the UK is one way that some of the stress can be reduced. Our team at Expatriate Healthcare are well trained to advise on options available, what would be best for you and give advice on the country you are moving too to help make the move work.
