Coffee and computer replace bowler hat and umbrella

Even in our capital city the sight of the businessman with his rolled up umbrella, bowler hat and copy of The Times is about as rare as an eagle sat in Times Square. The business uniform of this decade is a laptop case and a take-away coffee. Working out of the office no longer means that you are in a meeting as you are just as likely to be working from your sofa or in the comfort of the local Costa or Starbucks and all this is thanks to the laptop. Something you need to bear in mind is that although you are no longer chained to a desk, your effectiveness is ruled by two things, broadband access and your laptop battery.
Now broadband access is easily resolved, but if your battery is flat then it doesn’t matter what speed the broadband connection is, you can’t work. Of course you could find a plug socket for your laptop adapter but that is not always possible so, if you are going to work out of the office you need to compare it to your car. This comparison is not for the power but because you would rarely risk driving your car without the security of knowing that you had a spare tyre in the boot. In the same way, you need to carry a spare laptop battery for emergencies.
