How to look after a Cheap Rug
|
Just like designer rugs or more expensive wool rugs a cheap rug does need some TLC (Tender Loving Care) to make it last and look great for months and often years.
Cheap rugs were once considered to be a temporary option and often a waste of money as after a few months they in no condition and had to be thrown out. This is no longer the case but like other rugs you can get a lot more out of a cheap rug if you look after your cheap rug properly.
Recent changes in manufacturing has meant that good quality rugs can be mass produced, this has brought down the overall price of a lot of rugs and many rugs that now fall into the price bracket of cheap rugs are now very good quality rugs. More and more rugs in all styles and colours can be produced and distributed for less money and inevitably these savings are passed on to you as the customer. However, if you want to get the best out of your money when buying a cheap rug that is good quality you need to look after it properly.
Cheap Rugs need to be cleaned regularly, if your cheap rug has long fibres such as a shaggy rug then dirt can get between the fibres, and although the rug looks OK this dirt can wear away at the shaggy rugs’ fibres causing them to become damaged or come away from the rug.
You don’t need to do a daily deep clean but if you hoover regularly and wash every few weeks or months, depending on how much the rug is used and if you have children or pets, then your cheap rug will stay in good condition for a lot longer. When you hoover or vacuum your rug, flip it over and hoover the back of the rug, this will clean up dust and dirt from damaging the fibres at the source and will make a big impact on the durability of the rug.
If your rug gets used a lot, such as a hall rug or a shaggy rug in the living room, then you may need to clean it more often as more footfall will bring in more dirt, even bits of dirt that you won’t notice as much but will build up and damage the rug. If you have children or animals then they can bring in a lot of mud therefore you will need to clean the rug more often.
Cheap rugs can be great value for money if you make sure you look after it, just a quick 10 minute clean or hoover a week can be enough to ensure your cheap rug or shaggy rug looks brand new for years. |
