A Look At The Potential Features Of The Samsung Galaxy S3

During the last year, Samsung has released the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note, both of which are some of the most impressive and powerful smartphones available. The Korean manufacturer looks set to continue this trend in 2012, with a new flagship on the way called the Galaxy S3. Technology and smartphone enthusiasts are in for a treat with this device if leaked specs and online rumours are anything to go by.

In this article I will look at a couple of the features which are believed to be included on the handset’s spec list.

Camera
Like the new Sony Xperia S and the Nokia N8, it seems as though the Samsung Galaxy S3 will sport a digital camera with a whopping 12 million pixels. The Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note are well known for the quality of their 8 megapixel cameras, and the Galaxy S3 promises to deliver even better results. Expect the usual package of features to be included, such as autofocus, touch focus, image stabilisation and of course an LED flash. It is also likely that this camera will come with a few features only found on a couple of other recent smartphones. These include the likes of a panoramic photo capture capability, and of course 1080p video capture which means that full high definition videos can be shot using the camera. Other features which are sure to be carried over from its predecessor will include the ability to instantly upload photos and videos to sites like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. Overall, the results of this camera will be among the best that you can achieve with a smartphone, and it will certainly raise the bar for competing smartphones from other manufacturers.

Operating System
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is all but guaranteed to include the latest version of the popular Android platform (v4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich), as showcased in their Galaxy Nexus which was also released last year. This version sees the biggest overhaul of the operating system to date, more so than any other previous version. It has recently been announced in the media that Android now has a bigger market share than iOS which powers Apple devices like iPhones, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 looks set to increase this further, especially of sales reflect that of the popular Galaxy S2. Users can expect a number of innovations with this software which will contribute to the user experience in a significant way. New features like Android Beam (which allows file sharing between compatible handsets in a similar way to BlueTooth) will allow users to wirelessly share files of higher amounts of data than previously seen, meaning that high definition videos and music tracks can be shared instantly. Face recognition software is also included which will allow users to unlock their phone instantly using the front facing camera. These are some of the more notable features, although there are hundreds of smaller teaks included to make the user experience as simple and productive as possible.

The design of the handset is currently being debated and we will not know what the aesthetics will be like until the official unveiling, but it is widely believed that it will have a very slim profile which may even compete with the likes of the Motorola RAZR which is just 7.1mm thick. The screen is also an area where we are sure to see improvements, both in terms of its size and resolution. If the screen is bigger than the 4.3 inch S-AMOLED display of the Galaxy S2, then the handset will naturally have to be somewhat larger to accommodate this. The resolution is likely to be improved, as Samsung can currently boast some of the few handsets which outdo the iPhone 4S with its retina display which long held the title for the highest resolution smartphone display.

If you are into technology and smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be one of the major tech releases of 2012, and definitely not something you will want to miss. When it is unveiled I will be sure to cover the handset in more detail in future articles.
