Memory Foam

We have all heard of memory foam. This versatile form of polyurethane was at one point the most talked about revolution in bedding that we had seen since we realised that there was something more comfortable than mud to sleep on. Yet, very few people actually really know much about this purported wonder material, most notably how it works and why it is beneficial.

Pioneered by NASA for use in their crafts, the material was never originally planned to be confined to the bedrooms of millions of homes. However, after having many initial problems with the material, NASA jettisoned it in favour of other less temperamental choices. However, years later, scientists not only managed to get a grip on how to actually utilised its properties effectively, but they also realised that its unique density and ability to adapt to both weight and temperature meant that it would be the perfect material to create mattresses from.

As such, foam manufacturers now see a huge amount of their trade coming from the sale of this unique foam. As mentioned, it works by responding to either heat or weight to ensure that it moulds perfectly to the shape of the sleeper, offering them not only a great deal of comfort and the perfect firmness, but also far less pressure on joints too.

Foam manufacturers have now even been able to use the material to solve the age old problem of creating comfortable futons. As anyone who has slept on a futon will know, they are usually lumpy and uncomfortable, mostly due to the fact that creating a malleable padding that can be utilised in multiple forms is extremely difficult. Using memory foams, this problem can be completely avoided.

You may have heard of the material and wondered if it was just another gimmick. In reality, it is simply the perfect way to get the best night’s sleep with no strings attached.
