There is a menu icon in the top left hand corner, which when touched will display shortcuts to your news feed, messages, events, friends, and your own profile. Simply touch whichever one you want to navigate to and you will then be taken to that screen. Over a decent 3G or Wi-Fi connection this happens almost instantly. If you are on your profile or news feed, you are able to carry out the majority of tasks that you can on a computer at home. There are shortcuts to update your status, upload a photo, video or website link, as well as check into a destination or point of interest. These are conveniently located at the top of the screen, underneath the notifications bar.
The notifications bar lets you know whether you have any pending friend requests, unread messages, or other notifications like invitations to events, or to let you know that somebody has interacted with you maybe by writing on your wall or commenting on your status. These notifications will be displayed as a red number above the appropriate icon, so they are easy to spot.
When you are on the news feed, you can interact with posts that your friends have made. To do this, simply touch the ‘+’ icon next to a status, and you will then be presented with the option to either ‘Like’ or comment on the post.
If you want to upload a photo or video to your own wall or that of a friend, this is a simple task. Simply touch the upload shortcut and you will be prompted to choose either photo or video. Once selected, you then choose whether you want to use an existing photo or video from the gallery of your HTC Sensation, or you can use the handset’s built in 8 megapixel camera to take a new one. It is then a case of following the on screen instructions, and it will then be uploaded in no time.
The popularity of social networking sites like Facebook is highlighted by the number of downloads the app has had. Currently, the number stands at over 500,000,000 on the Android platform alone, with an even higher number of downloads of the iOS version for devices like the Apple iPhone 4S.
Handsets like the HTC Sensation make it easy to stay connected with friends and family on the go, and as you can see, it has the added bonus of being relatively simple to use.
