The Apple iPhone 4S is well known for its versatility thanks to a wide range of apps available from the AppStore. A good example of how the handset can be of benefit to everyone from business users to students is with the Numbers app. In this article, I provide an introduction to this app and how to use some of its main features.
What Is Numbers?
Numbers is the Apple optimised spreadsheet application found on devices like iMacs, MacBooks and iPads. It can also be downloaded for the iPhone 4S so you can work on spreadsheets on the go. It is similar in many ways to Excel, which is the popular spreadsheet package produced by Microsoft. It allows users to create fully functional spreadsheets with formulas, graphics and charts, so it can prove invaluable to business users who need to create or edit spreadsheets when out of the office.

As mentioned, Numbers is ideal for business users, but thanks to its ease of use, simply by using the touchscreen and with numerous built in templates, it has plenty of everyday applications. If you run a business, you can use one of the pre loaded templates to keep a log of your employees and their payments, finances and inventory. Even students can benefits by using the pre-loaded templates to keep a schedule of their classes and homework.
How Does It Work?
Using the advanced touchscreen of the iPhone 4S, it is easy to create a spreadsheet from scratch. Simply tap a cell and input data or a formula, and fill in the rest of the data as it needs to be added, and all the calculations will be done by the software. However, if you are new to spreadsheets, I suggest using the templates. Simply select the appropriate one for your task (over 30 to choose from) and it will prompt you to input the relevant data. When this is done, the data will be displayed in graphs, pie charts or any other format you choose.
The Numbers app costs £6.99 from the AppStore, so it is not the cheapest app out there and many not be necessary for everyone. However I feel this is good value given the numerous applications and ease of use of the app. If you take the time to learn how to use the app properly, you will probably wonder how you went without it for so long. A spreadsheet app may not sound like the most exiting use for your iPhone 4S, but when you take a closer look at it, I am sure you will be astounded at the capabilities of this app, and how it can be of benefit to you in many areas of your life.
