A Review Of The iMovie App For The Versatile iPhone 4S

With advances in smartphone technology, you can now use handsets like the iPhone 4S to create and share your very own movies. iMovie is an app available from the AppStore which can allows users to take existing video footage and turn it in to professional looking movies. In this article I will look at some of the main features of this app and how to use it.

iMovie allows you to take existing video footage that you have captured on the iPhone 4S’ built in 8 megapixel camera, and edit it to create great looking movies. When you have some pre recorded footage, simply open up the iMovie app and select the video you wish to edit. Once you have done this, the first thing you will need to do is trim the footage you don’t want to include, by using the slider interface to precisely cut unwanted footage from the video. You will then be left with the best bits. You can cut this further into sections which can then be re-arranged to change the order, again using the slider, and then you drag and drop the sections of video into the desired order.

Once this is done, you can edit the remaining footage by adding effects like slow motion or freeze frames, and even add additional still images from your photo library. You can add a sound track using music from the handset’s built in iPod functionality, or choose from a number of sound effects.

Text can be added using the on screen Qwerty keyboard, which allows users to include credits and captions, giving it a professional look. There are eight pre loaded themes which allow you to give the video a specific look and feel, with a new one called CNN iReport, which gives the video the look and feel of a news report, doing most of the hard work for you. Simply fill in the blanks when prompted, such as text, and this will scroll along the bottom like the headlines on a news report.

When you have finished creating your masterpiece, you can share it on a social networking site like Facebook with a touch of the screen, for all your friends and family to see. Additionally, you can choose to wirelessly stream it to a compatible TV to show it to a group of people so they do not have to crowd around the phone. Thanks to the iPhone 4S’ iCloud functionality, it can also be wirelessly saved and sent to your other Apple devices like an iPad 2 or iMac.

The functionality and versatility of the iMovie app means that you can use it for fun, creating a movie of your latest holiday or day out, or school and university projects. With enough practice and patience the results can be fantastic, and just as good as anything produced on a computer. Apps like iMovie show how the iPhone franchise keeps getting better and better. iMovie can be downloaded almost instantly over a 3G or Wi-Fi connection for just £2.99, which I think is great value for money given the potential of the app.
