A Solar Panel And Its Significance

Solar energy is basically the heat that is generated from the sun. We have been using this for ages, but these days there are a number of secondary resources that are solar-powered. For instance, hydroelectricity, biomass, wind, and wave power now form a major part of renewable energy sources. Since there is a growing interest in the use of solar energy, there are a number of people who wish to install these panels in their homes and offices. Rising energy costs, depletion of fossil fuel and environmental degradation are forcing individuals to look at alternative energy sources for their household needs. A solar panel consists of a number of solar cells that are grouped together to produce electrical energy. These panels are a standard feature in most modern homes.

A solar panel helps in harnessing solar energy from the sunlight, which is then converted to electricity with the use of inverters. The electricity thus generated can be used to power your home. The size of these panels will depend entirely on the power requirements of your home. Therefore, it is important to make a proper assessment before you decide on the size of these panels. The placement of these panels, the amount of sunlight you receive, shadows on the panels, placement of control panels are all important points that have to be taken into consideration before installation of the panel. The solar cell that was available earlier were quite bulky, unlike the present ones.

The particles of light called photons hit the solar cell, which is then absorbed by the semiconductor or silicon. This panel is just a group of solar cells and it can easily produce the required amount of electrical energy. You may either use a single solar panel or a group of panels linked together. This type of an arrangement is known as a ‘solar array.’ So, if the panels are more in number, the electricity that is produced is also higher.

The cost of producing solar panels was very high and the efficiency of these panels was really low when they were first discovered. Hence, there were serious limitations and this technology could not be used. But today, all those limitations have been overcome. People all over the world realize the significance of clean, green technologies such as this and are willing to install them in their homes. We have come a long way from a single solar cell to the ‘solar array’ and that is a huge advancement.

If you live in an area where you get plenty of sunshine, you can build your own solar panel for your household needs. Ensure that you mount it properly and follow the instructions and guidelines while doing so. There are adjustable panel mounts with an adjustable inclination as well. This is useful during the winter months as it may be adjusted to a lower angle. Tracking solar panel mounts are the most ideal ones as they follow the sun’s path throughout the day and thereby receive sufficient sunlight.
