Online continues impressive growth


Christmas time is one of the most import times for e-retailers as the 4 weeks in December account for 25% of the sales made on the website. The growth of online sales is clear to see from the fact that e-retail sales increased by 16% when compared to December 2010 showing more and more people are using the internet to shop for products. This December it was predicted that shoppers will not go out in force and against all the odds the amount of products bought online increased. The reports from leading retailers state that they have experienced a successful Christmas online with many seeing record profits despite the down turn in traffic.

The week before the Christmas period online retailers claim that they saw a 32% on average increase in sales when compared to previous years. Many merchants claim that the main success has been due to the advancements in delivery options allowing people to last minute shop without going to the overcrowded high street at Christmas time, and still getting their goods on time. The growth of online sales can also be put down to well-planned and thought out digital marketing strategies that display their marketing message in the correct way. A big part to why companies are successful online is the Google advancements they have bought in over the last few years, including Google shopping and advancements in PPC. Another reason companies do well online is when their website is set up for SEO correctly and they are targeting different keywords. Appearing higher in the natural listing is a key way for companies to drive traffic to their website as well as generating revenue to the customer.

The growth of online sales highlighted around Christmas that the digital market has moved quickly with better designed websites, and the advancements in mobile websites mean buying online has never been easier. As well as it being simpler to order online, the rise of online sales could be put down to the amount of devices the user can order products on.
