Whether it is kickboxing, Muay Thai, or any mixed martial arts, shin pad is equally important for your leg protection. Any severe injury to your leg can cause you unfit for martial arts forever.
Your opponent never leaves a single opportunity to strike heavy kicks on you or to knock you out. Unprotected shins may give him an opportunity to knock you out or in some cases injure you.
