A Closer Look At The New Android Ice Cream Sandwich Software On The Superb Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus sits at the top of the manufacturer’s range alongside the Galaxy Note. Released to showcase the upcoming Android version called Ice Cream Sandwich, I will take a look at some of the main features of the software found on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

NCF
Near Field Communication (NCF) technology is likely to become a mainstay with smartphones in the near future, thanks to the convenience it proves to its users. NCF was originally developed to make cashless payments using you NCF enabled mobile phone. Currently the infrastructure is not very widespread, but the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is ready to go once everything is in place. In the mean time, NCF can also be used in a similar way to the familiar Bluetooth technology, which allows users to wirelessly share data such as multimedia files, apps, documents and contacts.

Face Recognition
This has been a feature found on several smartphone cameras recently, but the Samsung Galaxy Nexus utilised this is an innovative way. Thanks to a secondary camera on the front of the handset, users can unlock the phone by face recognition, so there is no need to input a PIN code or password. This can be a real time saver, and is arguably more impressive than biometric fingerprint scanners which are found on phones like the Motorola Atrix.

User Interface
Ice Cream Sandwich has seen what is arguably the biggest overhaul in terms of the appearance of its interface, of any version of Android thus far. A lot of attention has been paid to making it more user friendly; users can now switch between apps in a single swipe, and there are shortcut keys on the screen rather than the capacitive shortcut keys found on previous Android devices. There is a shortcut which displays your most recently used apps, so your most commonly used apps are just a touch away. When the handset is turned on, updates are automatically loaded during the booting up process, which saves the task of searching for updates manually.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus of course has many other features which make it an appealing device. Aside from the new operating system, users are also treated to one of the best touchscreens in the business. At 4.65 inches, the screen boasts a whopping resolution of 720x 1280, making it the first true HD AMOLED screen. This provides outstanding image quality, and it is highly responsive thanks to a 1.2 gigahertz dual core processor. There is also a 5 megapixel camera, which although does not have the highest pixel count, still produces pleasing still images and even 1080p full HD video.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is one of the smartphones which is truly at the cutting edge. You may have preference for another brand such as Apple, but there is no denying that this is one of the most impressive smartphone currently available.
