Transform Urban India Webinar launched by Indian Institute for Human Settlements

Delhi, February 1, 2012: India’s cities, towns and villages are currently undergoing a process of transformation which promises to significantly alter its socioeconomic landscape. Urbanization is becoming a prominent phenomenon and the rapid growth of Indian cities is giving rise to new sets of challenges for the nation. Effective governance, good infrastructure, sustainable lifestyles and many other issues are going to become increasingly important in the years to come. These issues are particularly relevant for our youth as they will face and resolve these challenges. They will be the scholars, practitioners and decision-makers of tomorrow who will steer the course of debate in the near future, determining the path that our cities, towns and villages will take. It is therefore, a matter of critical importance that the youth of today begin to engage with these issues and understand the nuances of these questions to better prepare for the future.
The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is a national education institution committed to the equitable, sustainable and efficient transformation of Indian settlements. IIHS is India’s first prospective independently funded and managed interdisciplinary National University for Innovation that focuses on its ongoing urban and development transformation. It is a first-of-its-kind, practice and innovation-oriented knowledge institution that seeks to bridge the conventional excellence, scale and inclusion divide.
One of the ways it plans to facilitate this is by enabling India’s young citizens to engage with these critical issues on their own terms. It has set up an exclusive Youth Platform "Transform Urban India" (www.transformurbanindia.com) to enable this.
IIHS, through Transform Urban India, is launching a Transform Urban India Webinaron a range of urbanization-related themes on the 3rd and 4th of February 2012.
