The Windows Registry is the database for storing all the configuration settings and the option on the Microsoft Windows Operating System. It contains all the information for the settings of the low level operating system and all the applications that are running in the platform. It is worth noting that a careful handling is required to fix computer registry files, as it can cause serious errors in system functioning.

The Windows registry files can be changed by two different methods. The first is to edit the values lying inside of the Windows Registry Editor and the second method is you can write the registry files yourself. In case you need professional suggestions for the same you can take the assistance from the various online computer support services by the remote computer help companies.

Easy process of writing the Windows Registry files

For writing the Windows Registry files, open the plain text editor program like the WordPad, Notepad etc. After that type RegistryEditorVersion syntax, on the top of the text document and in case you have the Windows XP, 7 or the Vista system, type the Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 on the top line on the text document.

Select the option of “Enter” from the keyboard twice for placing a blank line in between the RegistryEditorVersion syntax so as for identifying the staring of the registry entry. The next procedure is typing the registry path of the subkey for storing the registry value in the place you want. Then you will have to separate all the level of the path with the help of backslash and then placing the registry paths inside the brackets.

Take the example given below which explains the registry subkey for which a value will be stored under the “Policies” for the Microsoft Window, which applies for all the users. [HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystem]. After this press the “Enter” key for starting a new line.

The next step is to type the name of the data item, you wish to overwrite or import. Around the name of the data item, you will have to place quotation marks and then type the equal to sign after the ending quotation mark. Then you will have to type the data type of the registry value followed by the colon mark. Be careful of not typing the value data type or the colon in case the data is of REG_SZ types.

The value of the registry key is to be typed in the hexadecimal, word or string format. You will have to repeat the process for typing the multiple data item lines, in case it is needed. Select the option of “Enter” for placing the blank line again. Select the “File” menu and then check “Save As”. Select the location for saving the registry files from the “Save In” drop down menu. Type the files name followed by “.reg” and select “Save”.

Click twice on the location of the registry file and then select “Yes” for adding the registry entry into the Windows registry. In case there are errors, take the immediate technical support by various computer services providers.
