The Samsung Galaxy R And A Look Around Its Video Capabilities

The Samsung Galaxy R is the latest mobile device to be released by the Korean manufacturer. This model is not intended to compete with other premium devices from the brand such as the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Note and is designed as a more attractively priced alternative to models such as these. We take a look at video capture on this model and also the video playback gallery that the device features.

The Samsung Galaxy R can record video footage at a resolution of 720P. Although this standard is not as high as the 1080P resolution that is offered by some premium models it is still classified as High Definition and produces some superb results. Video is recorded in MP4 format at a frame rate of 30 per second and at a bitrate of 10.1Mbps. When we tested the video facility on this model we found that there was some great colour reproduction and the majority of our recordings were both very sharp and full of detail. One negative aspect of this feature is that it does not incorporate an autofocus facility or a manual focus. This means that you have to rely upon a fixed focus to ensure that your footage is recorded as clearly as possible. The interface used when recording video is very similar to the one you are presented with when taking a still photograph. On the right hand side of the screen you find the main record button which is centrally located so it is easy to activate with your right thumb. A narrow bar on the left hand side of the display houses a variety of settings including adjustments for video resolution and a number of different scene modes.

When it comes to viewing your recorded footage the Samsung Galaxy R uses a great video player. The interface is very simple and presents you with a list of all of your clips which can be arranged by name, date, size or type. An excellent aspect of this feature is how the device can remember the last position viewed on any of your footage. This means that if you need to stop viewing for any reason you can easily resume playback at any point in the future. A huge number of video file formats can be handled by the Galaxy R including MP4 and DivX at 720P resolution. In the audio department the device can add 5.1 channel virtualisation to video clips to give a surround sound effect. Subtitles can also be added and there are adjustments available to change the font appearance and also the synchronisation of the text that appears on screen.

Although the Samsung Galaxy R does not off 1080P video capture the 720P resolution that it does capture produces superb results. The interface on this model is easy to use and a huge variety of files can be played by the excellent video player that the phone incorporates.
