Exmouth –Every Angler’s Barramundi Fishing Haven

Barramundi is considered as icon fish specie in Australia. They grown in huge sizes, they thrive and dominate Australian waters, and when they take lures, they would struggle as much as they could to take off the hook.

Most of fishing enthusiasts dream of a relaxing getaway with Barramundi fishing and go to these areas to fulfill this dream. Since they bring a lot income in the country, the Australian government is also getting strict with the possession limits and size of the catch.

Threats

Unregulated commercial and recreational exploitation were previously major threats to Barramundi stocks. As a response, netting is banned since these fishes are vulnerable to it. The government has also made regulations on the allowable size of fishes that can be caught. In some areas, license is necessary for fishing.

Angling Characteristics

Barramundi fishing is not for those who have a weak heart. Once it is hooked, it rushes to get cover with the burst of speed. This makes a very exciting sport for many anglers and the challenge becomes harder for bigger fishes. Many of them can grow as much as 40 pounds and with the length of more than one meter.

Breeding

Barramundi are very interesting fishes since they are protandrous hermaphrodites. It means that they are born as males and change into females as they reach the age of 5 years. At a younger age, they mainly live in freshwater billabongs and northern rivers. During the wet season, they head downstream to the tidal flats and estuaries.

When the water temperature is at 27-33 degrees, they spawn. They take their eggs in brackish waters since this is the ideal environment for hatching. At the end of the wet season, they go upstream and live there for the next few years in freshwaters until such time that they do downstream to breed again.

Why Choose Exmouth?

Exmouth fishing is a paradise, with more than 150 fish fishes in this part of Australia. Regardless of the season of the years, anglers will surely conquer these waters and rarely go home empty-handed. Aside from sport fishing offshore, the place also offers great land-based fishing opportunities.

Land-based Exmouth fishing provides an excellent venue for the whole family to enjoy together. Other popular activities include beach fishing, and catching squids and mud crabs. This place is a fishing paradise and one of the best in the country, with more than 40 different types of game fish present.
