Super cars to be scrapped after accident

Many vehicles around the world are put through scrap car disposal when they are no longer reliable or safe enough to be on the roads. Also, car scrappage occurs when vehicles are involved in serious accidents and the damage inflicted on them is too great to repair.

Recently, a number of super cars suffered this fate after being involved in a crash in Japan, The Daily Yomiuri reported.

A total of 14 vehicles were involved in the pileup on the Chugoku Expressway near Shimonoseki junction in Yamaguchi Prefecture, which is in the Chugoku region on Honshu island.

This incident was not the average pileup. It involved eight Ferraris, three Mercedes-Benzes and a Lamborghini, among other vehicles. It is estimated that the motors being sent for scrap car disposal as a result of the crash have a combined value of more than £2 million.

Ten people were taken to hospital for medical treatment after the accident, which occurred at around 10.15 am local time. However, surprisingly none of their injuries were serious, the expressway traffic unit of the Yamaguchi prefectural police revealed.

The cars were primarily located on the Osaka Prefecture-bound lane at a point where it curved around to the left. However, one of the vehicles was driving in the oncoming lane.

One man who witnessed the event, who is described as a 36-year-old self-employed individual from Kanzaki, said he was driving in the opposite lane when the collision took place, adding that the cars were making a "tremendous noise".
Given that many of the vehicles had to be sent to car scrappage, it is lucky that there were no more serious injuries as a result of the crash. In November last year, a serious pileup on the M5 in England lead to a number of fatalities and was described as the worst motorway accident in the country for 20 years.
