Overcome Obstacles to Healthy Living with a Weight Loss Holiday

Losing weight requires making changes to the diet and daily routine, sometimes radical ones depending on the severity of the problem. Much as the case with addiction treatment, these changes must be lasting and address the root of the problem, in order to prevent the weight relapse seen after following restrictive, fad diets.

Removing the Triggers

Seeking help away from the environment where problem behaviors occur is an important step. A weight loss retreat is a great option for many people looking to break negative cycles and introduce positive behaviors. It can be extremely difficult to change behavioral patterns when all the triggers for those old patterns are constantly there around you. The lounger and television, or the computer desk, have served an important function in your life, after all, namely to reduce stress. Unfortunately, they are also the places where snacking on junk food happens.

Successful weight loss requires changing the context of life and introducing new stress relief tools. This process can be aided by taking a weight loss holiday. Some offer hypnotherapy to reprogram those harmful stress reduction behaviors, replacing them with new, healthy ones. Hypnotherapy is a powerful way of unlocking mental awareness of behavior and making it easier to consciously choose new ways of being. When you return home, the triggers for past behavior will appear obvious, and you will have learned the skills to put better options in their place.

Camaraderie

Another major benefit to taking a weight loss holiday is the opportunity to share your obstacles and ambitions with fellow travelers. You will be surrounded by others walking the same path and striving for the same goals. The friends made and conversations had will awaken a new awareness of your situation and help spur new ideas. It is easy to be bogged down in hopelessness when facing a seemingly insurmountable problem alone, and a weight loss retreat ensures that this does not happen.

Detoxification and Proper Nourishment

One of the hurdles faced by most people attempting to lose weight is toxin accumulation through malnourishment. Toxins can cause the body to hold on to fat in ways that regular dieting and exercise can't touch. The body is efficient at removing toxins, but this requires adequate levels of micro-nutrients. Besides providing only the healthiest food options, the weight loss retreat often employs several detox strategies. Sauna treatment, oriental massage therapy and yoga instruction are great examples.

Exercise Training

Everyone knows that exercise is important to weight loss efforts. It is a science though, and some forms of exercise are far more effective at building metabolism and altering body composition. The gym can be an intimidating place when you are overweight or new to the setting. A weight loss holiday can get you off on the right foot by setting you up with a personal fitness trainer in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Learning new behaviors, detoxifying the mind and body, and gaining knowledge and skills are key parts of what makes a weight loss retreat successful.
