The Versatile iPhone 4S And Samsung Galaxy S2 - An Overview Of The Attributes They Share In Common

Smartphones are becoming increasingly popular as well as powerful. One of the best selling devices is the Apple iPhone 4S. However, there are several other popular devices which run the Android platform such as the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Whilst these devices have many differences, the two share many similar applications, which I will look at in this article.

YouTube
The iOS5 platform, which is the operating system of choice for of the Apple iPhone 4S comes with a pre-installed YouTube application as does the Android operating system found on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S2. YouTube is one of the most visited websites in the world, and allows users to upload and view videos for free. The application found on both of these devices offers many similar functions to using the site on a standard computer. Users are able to search for videos using specific keywords, which can then be viewed on the handsets high resolution touchscreen. Of course, both of these phones have a built in digital camera which comes with the ability to shoot video footage. When users have recorded a video, there is the option to instantly upload it to YouTube.

Google Maps
Google Maps is a very popular application which allows users to search for specific locations around the world. So comprehensive is Google’s indexing, that users can even search for specific postcodes. Once users have found their location, they can switch to street view which displays a ground view rather than an aerial view. You can choose to view maps as a satellite image or in a standard map format. Google Maps comes with a number of handy features such as the ability to highlight roads with heavy traffic so you can avoid these. Both the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S2 have built in GPS capabilities, meaning that if you are lost you can pinpoint your current location. You can then input a destination and the application will provide turn by turn directions. Additionally, Google maps can highlight local areas of interest and the nearest services such as petrol stations, coffee shops and hospitals etc.

The iPhone 4S has the famous AppStore where users can browse hundreds of thousands of apps, whilst this can be done using the Android Market on the Samsung Galaxy S2. App developers are now making most of their products available for both operating systems, to capitalise on the popularity of both operating systems. Both the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S2 have powerful hardware which means that demanding applications can be run with ease, and this also skyrockets the versatility of each handset.

Of course there are thousands of other applications which could be mentioned, but hopefully this article has goven you an idea of just how versatile both of these handsets are.
