A Closer Look At Processors On The Motorola Razr And The Lumia 800

Motorola have established a reputation for producing high quality mobile devices that offer great design combined with some excellent features. The new Motorola Razr is no exception and this exciting new device looks set to be one of the most popular phones of 2012. We see how this new phone compares with the latest handset released by Nokia, the new Lumia 800.

Screen technology is one of the most vital areas on any modern phone and the Motorola Razr offers some extremely high quality in this department. The models uses a 4.3inch Super AMOLED display which is the same type of screen that has been used on the award winning Samsung Galaxy S2 handset. This type of screen produces bright colours and also works very well in sunlight which is where many other types of screen can encounter problems. The Razr displays a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels which results in a great pixel density of 256PPI. The Lumia 800 uses an AMOLED screen which is less energy efficient and displays a slightly darker image than the Super AMOLED variety that the Motorola uses. The is slightly smaller at 3.7 inches and also offers a lower resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. In terms of pixel density this means that the Lumia is capable of displaying 252PPI which is a level very similar to what the Razr can offer. The Motorola however comes out on top in this area as it uses the newer screen technology on a larger screen which makes it perfect for a multitude of uses including movie playback and gaming.

The Motorola Razr offers an incredibly powerful chipset to match the high quality screen that it uses. The model features a 1.2Ghz dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor that is regarded as one of the very best mobile processors available. Graphics are looked after by a PowerVR SGX540 GPU that makes gaming and movie playback look incredibly clear and detailed. The Razr also boasts 1GB of RAM memory which helps to make this model one of the most powerful available. The Lumia 800 uses a 1.4Ghz single core Scorpion processor which is both reliable and capable of producing performance speeds similar to the Motorola. An Adreno 205 graphics processing unit gives the visuals a real boost but the overall package is let down by a rather small RAM memory of 512MB. Although this does not have much of an impact on the operation speeds of the model it does limit the phone when it comes to running new software that is released in the future.

The Motorola Razr and the Nokia Lumia 800 are two high quality smartphones that both offer attractive looks and some excellent features. The Motorola handset does impress us more than its rival thanks to the stunning screen quality and the fast performance times that it offers.
