An Overview Of Display Performance On The Blackberry Curve 9360 And The Lumia 710

The new Blackberry Curve 9360 is the latest addition to the popular range of competitively priced smartphones that are produced by RIM. This latest model looks like being the most impressive Curve device ever released thanks to software improvements and some excellent new features. We take a look at the screen quality and design of this phone and compare it with the new Lumia 710, a new budget device from Nokia.

Both of these new devices make use of a good quality display. It would be wrong of us to expect them to offer a resolution that rivals the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the iPhone 4 but as far as budget devices go these two models are hard to beat. The Blackberry Curve 9360 incorporates a small 2.45 inch TFT screen that boasts an HVGA quality. On a larger screen this standard would struggle to produce clear images but on a display of this size the results are superb. A pixel density of 246PPI can be displayed which is very high and the resulting effect on video playback and games takes some beating. Colours maintain a natural warmth and viewing angles are also superb on this model. Thanks to the lack of a physical keypad the Nokia Lumia 710 can incorporate a much larger 3.7 inch display. This additional size means that the screen must offer a higher resolution in order to maintain quality and the 710 does not let us down in this area thanks to the 480 x 800 pixel that it can display. This results in a high pixel density of 252PPI. Just like the Blackberry this handset delivers great colour reproduction and good viewing angles. There really is very little to choose between these two devices in this area with both offering a very high standard of display. The screen size on the Nokia will appeal to consumers looking to use multi media files while the Blackberry will strike a chord with users looking for messaging facilities thanks to Qwerty keypad that is located beneath the screen.

The Blackberry Curve 9360 is a very well built device which is what we have come to expect from RIM devices over the years. The phone follows the traditional Blackberry format with the fascia split into two segments with the top half housing the display and the bottom half incorporating the Qwerty keypad. In addition to these two elements there is also a handy optical trackpad that enables the user to navigate around the screen. The handset is very compact and weighs only 99 grams which makes it one of the lightest devices currently available. The Lumia 710 is an attractive phone that measures 119 x 62.4 x 12.5mm. The model weighs 125 grams which makes it slightly heavier than the Curve 9360 but the model seems to lack the overall build quality that the Blackberry device offers.

If you are looking for a competitively priced smartphone then these two devices are definitely worth some attention. Both models offer a high quality display but when it comes to design and build quality the Blackberry Curve 9360 outshines its rival.
