The Versatile Blackberry Bold 9900 Boasts A 5 Megapixel Camera With LED Flash

The Blackberry Bold 9900 is one of the latest handsets in the popular Bold range. In this article I will look at some of its key features so you can decide if it is the right smartphone for you.

The front of the handset houses both a 2.8 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen and a full Qwerty keyboard. This means that users who send a lot of text messages and emails are sure to appreciate this phone, as it makes text entry quick and efficient. The touchscreen may not be on the level of many touchscreen only smartphone in size or resolution but it offers an option for navigating the Blackberry 7.0 OS, as does the handy optical trackpad.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 has a generous 8 GB of internal storage as standard, which means that a large number of music tracks, photos, video and documents can be stored within the phone, and this can be enhanced further by utilising the micro SD slot which can house a compatible memory card of up to 32 GB. Therefore an entire music collection and a large amount of other files can be stored within the phone, available at your fingertips.

Internet browsing is an area where the handset stands out, as you may expect from an RIM device. In areas where no wireless networks are available, the handset calls upon 3G coverage which provides data download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps meaning that web pages load quickly and streaming of YouTube videos is carried out with minimal lag during the buffering process. When you are in range of, and have access to a wireless network, you can use Wi-Fi connectivity to browse the internet at faster speeds, and other benefits this has over 3G is the fact that it uses less battery power and it does not use up your data allowance which is handy if you have such restrictions on your tariff.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 has a 5 megapixel camera, meaning it is a very capable camera phone. The camera operates at a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944, which means that the resulting images have very good levels of quality and detail. The camera comes with several image enhancing functions as standard, such as an LED flash, image stabilisation and face detection. As an added bonus, the camera can also shoot video footage in 720p high definition, with lower setting included to save memory.

The Blackberry 7.0 operating system operates in conjunction with a powerful 1.2 GHz single core processor. Although it does not have a dual core chip like many newer smartphones, it still has very good performance, with features like the touchscreen and operating times of apps benefitting from the ample processing power.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 is available now on several UK networks, with most offering the handset for free on selected tariffs.
