The new Sony Xperia S was recently unveiled at the CES show, and turned many heads thanks to its forward thinking spec list and great styling. It looks set to prove very popular because of these reasons. But how does it compare to the benchmark smartphone, the iPhone 4S? In this article I will compare the key features of both handsets to find out.
Sony Xperia S
The Sony Xperia S boasts some of the finest features in all areas of its spec list. One feature that really stands out is its camera, which boasts 12 megapixels. This can shoot 1080p HD, and even includes a 3D panoramic capture feature. Another notable attribute of the handset is its screen, which has a resolution of 720x 1280 meaning it is able to display content in high definition. In terms of its processing power, the Sony Xperia S shares the top spot with the HTC Sensation XE, boasting a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. Along with fast internet browsing speeds, plenty of internal storage and a planned upgrade to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, it is a very exciting handset indeed.
iPhone 4S
Apple’s iPhone range has always proven to be popular, and these days many choose to use their latest handset (iPhone 4S) as the benchmark to which other smartphones are compared. Upon closer comparison of the spec list, you will find that on paper at least, the Sony Xperia S outdoes nearly all of the features of the iPhone 4S. For example, this handset has a 5 megapixel camera and retina display with a resolution of 640x 960, so it still produces great display quality. The AppStore is similar to the Android Market which allows users to browse hundreds of thousands of apps which can be downloaded straight to the handset.
Of course, there are many more features which could be compared, but hopefully from the above overview you will see that the Sony Xperia S is a very impressive handset indeed. Although it offers more advanced specifications in general than the iPhone 4S, it must be mentioned that the Apple handset is still one of the most advanced smartphone currently available. Also, choosing between the two is likely to come down to personal preference, either for a particular manufacturer or for Android or iOS operating systems.
The Sony Xperia S was recently announced at CES, so it is currently unavailable although Orange has been confirmed to be one of the first networks to carry the handset upon its release. The iPhone 4S has been available since summer 2011, and is currently available from several UK networks, many of which offer the handset for free on selected tariffs.
