A Closer Look At The Versatile Blackberry Torch 9810

The original Blackberry Torch was a rather popular handset thanks largely to its combination of a touchscreen and slide out Qwerty keyboard. In this article I will take a closer look at the upgraded version, the Blackberry Torch 9810.

The 9810 version like the original is the ideal smartphone for those who send a lot of emails or text messages, thanks to its slide out physical Qwerty keyboard. This has the classic layout that most users will be familiar with, and offers a great alternative to using the on screen Qwerty keyboard.

The Blackberry Torch 9810 is ideally equipped to browse the internet, as you may expect from most RIM devices. It calls upon both 3G and Wi-Fi connections, which provide the optimum connection based on local network coverage and signal strength. Wi-Fi provides the fastest internet connection, and has the added bonus of less battery consumption and it does not use up your data allowance, should you have such restrictions on your tariff. When no Wi-Fi networks are available, 3G is called upon, whereby data download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps can be achieved, meaning that web pages load quickly and YouTube videos stream with minimal buffering lag.

As a camera phone, the Blackberry Torch 90810 is by no means ground breaking, however it does the job well and is sure to suit the needs of most users who only take occasional snapshots. The camera operates at a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944 (5 megapixels), so the image quality is very good, and it also has the added bonus of video capture in settings of up to 720p. The camera comes with a number of image enhancing features which includes autofocus and LED flash, face detection and image stabilisation.

In order to store your files on the phone, be they photos, videos, documents or music tracks, the Blackberry Torch 9810 has a generous 8 GB of internal storage, although this can be expanded by up to 32 GB by installing a compatible memory card into the micro SD slot.

The Blackberry 7.0 OS is the operating system of choice, and although it may lack the flair of platforms such as Android or iOS, it is extremely easy to use, and clearly aimed at functionality, where is does a good job. There is a 1.2 GHz processor under the hood, and this provides plenty of computing power for various aspects of the hardware and software to operate smoothly.

If you are interested in the Blackberry Torch 9810, you will be pleased to know that it is currently available for free on selected tariffs from various UK networks.
