American Football league in India raises the eyebrows of anlysts from the Indian sporting fraternity. The issue that revolves around the American-style football is the success of the game as the sporting world knows that India is the only land that has a single-minded obsession with cricket and nothing else. In this hostile condition, the members of Elite Football League of India, or EFLI have shown firm determination to make American Football popular in India. A group of foreign investors without pondering on post league consequences has come forward to launch the Elite Football League of India, or EFLI. There is an anticipation that American-style football in India is going to be a lucrative event in a country of 1.2 billion people.
Elite Football League of India is officially going to kick off its initial journey in November 2011 in the western city of Pune, letting eight teams from India's largest cities to participate in the inaugural session. Now the idea to globalise American-style football is lot more depended on reactions from Indian spectators after post-league session as whether the rough and tumble sport will excite Indians, for whom it is “an area of darkness.”
Phychologically, it is a game that exhibits true physical spirit and strength rather than to let style and grace to perform. In contrast to the cricket, which considered to be a religion in India, American-style football does not complement the Indian physique, even though some regions in Northern India are known to be the abode of taller and sturdy population. But the members of the EFLI think something big to consolidate the position of American Football league in India. Funding to provide training to both players and coaches, the EFLI has intended to add new teams in each season for 10 years, or until it has 52 teams representing all Indian cities with a population of over one million.
The prospect to prosper American Football League in India and Asia is alive and sports enthusiasts and analysts from across the globe see India as an emerging market where other sports enterprises, such as Formula One auto racing, are also eyeing its huge middle class. All said and done, Indians only wish for its spectacular success and it would turn into a multi-million dollar business along with true sporting event. |
