Watch Out for American Football in India and Asia Soon

The Elite Football League of India (EFLI) is a sports enterprise that sets the stage for men's professional American football league to be played in India and Sri Lanka. Professional American Football league is scheduled to start its inaugural season in late 2012 with eight teams chosen from various cities across India and in Colombo, Sri Lanka to make the event spectacular and successful. The ELFI will be South Asia's first professional American Football league that is going to be sponsored by the Government of India and the Sports Authority of India at the time of its launching.
Formed in the middle of 2011, the EFLI had gained public attion on August 5, 2011. The purpose of the league is to enter American football into the Indian subcontinent where its has large consumer base to market the sport easily. The members who proposed EFLI consist of both American and Indian business and entertainment executives as well as several American sports figures. American brand marketing consultant Sunday Zeller is the brain behind the formation of the Elite Football League of India.
Foreign investors make a beeline to sponsor this sports league in Asia with prominent figures include former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brandon Chillar, Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike Ditka, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin and former NFL quarterback Ron Jaworski. Both Ditka and Irvin are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Chillar is of Indian descent.
Like the Indian Premier League (IPL), the EFLI will be held anually with the first regular season games are scheduled to flag off in November 2012 in Pune and the session will last for four long months ending in February 2013. If reports are to be believed, the Americal Football league is going to be televised in the whole of South Asian countries including India on Sports that signed up a multi-year deal for telecast coverage.
EFLI is proposed a plan to train Indian players and coaching staff with the support of the professionals from American teams. The board attempts to find talents from both rural and unban India, thus making a room for deserving candidates to avail the opportunities. At the same time, the board is planning to expand its programmes in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan to augument the members of the talent pool. |
