The Versatile Samsung Galaxy R Features A 5 MP Digital Camera With LED Flash

The Samsung Galaxy R is an Android powered mid range smartphone from the popular Korean manufacturer. Is offers a slightly cheaper alternative to its current flagship model the Galaxy S2, and in this article I will take a closer look at some of its key features so you can decide if it is the right smartphone for you.

The appearance of the Samsung Galaxy R is similar to that of the iPhone 4S or iPhone 4. The front of the phone houses a 4.2 inch SC-LCD capacitive touchscreen, which boasts a pixel resolution of 480x 800. This is ample for multimedia use, be it viewing photos and video, browsing the web or playing games. In order to store your files such as music tracks, photos and apps, the Samsung Galaxy R has 8 GB of internal storage. This may not be as high as some other smartphones, but it can still store thousands of music tracks. You also have the option of utilising the micro SD slot by installing a memory card of up to 32 GB, meaning that storage is unlikely to be a problem with this phone.

The Samsung Galaxy R is well equipped to browse the internet on the move. It relies on both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity to provide the best connection based on network coverage and signal strength. The optimum connection is provided by Wi-Fi, provides fast browsing speeds with the added bonuses of less battery use and unlimited surfing without using your data allowance. To use Wi-Fi you simply need the appropriate access details to a local wireless network although many open networks are now available in public places. If you are not in range of a Wi-Fi network, the alternative is to use 3G via the HSDPA connection.

The Samsung Galaxy R is a decent camera phone, and although it may not have the 8 megapixel unit found on the Galaxy S2, its 5 MP unit is more than capable of producing pleasing results. It comes with a number useful features such as autofocus, LED flash and smile detection. It can also be used for capturing video footage in 720p HD and there is a camera on the front for self portrait photos and video calls.

Android Gingerbread is the OS of choice, and this runs alongside the TouchWiz UI, and provides a customisable and easy to use interface which can be customised with downloaded apps from Android Market. The 1 GHz dual-core processor under the hood provides all the power the phone needs to run demanding applications and hardware.

Sacrifices like a slight decrease in processing power and a lower camera resolution are pretty much the only difference between this and the popular Galaxy S2. If you like the Samsung Galaxy R, you can pick the handset up for free on selected tariffs from major UK networks now.
