The Impressive HTC Wildfire S Boasts A 5 Megapixel Camera

The HTC Wildfire was one of the most popular entry level smartphones of 2010, and in February 2011 we saw the release of an upgraded version called the Wildfire S. In this article I will take a look at some of the key features of the latter, so you can decide if it is the right smartphone for you.

The handset measures up at 101.3x 59.4x 12.4mm so it is a compact device which is very pocket friendly. The front is dominated by the 3.2 inch TF capacitive touchscreen which has a resolution of 320x 480. Obviously this is by no means the highest resolution out there, but does a great job when carrying out everyday tasks be they browsing the net, sending messages or playing videos.

The HTC Wildfire S comes with a modest 512 MB of internal storage to get you started, and there is also a 2 GB SD card included. This can hold a decent amount of music tracks, videos, photos and downloaded apps, but this can be replaced with a card of up to 32 GB, meaning that you can store your entire music collection on the phone along with many other files.

Browsing the internet is an important part of smartphone use for most users, and the HTC Wildfire S is well equipped for this task. An HSDPA connection allows users to browse with speeds of 7.2 Mbps when they are not within range of an accessible Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi is preferable to 3G browsing because it offers faster speeds, less battery usage and does not use up your data allowance.

The HTC Wildfire S is a decent camera phone, with a 5 megapixel unit on hand to take good quality still images thanks to its resolution of 2592x 1944 which results in good levels of detail and clarity. The camera on this phone is by no means groundbreaking, but if you only use your phone to take occasional snapshots, it is unlikely to disappoint. As an added bonus, the camera can also be used to shoot VGA quality video footage.

The operating system of choice is the popular Android platform, of which the latest Gingerbread version runs alongside the HTC Sense UI. A 600 MHz processor is on hand to run various aspects of the hardware and software performance. Like the camera, this processor is a far cry from the dual-cores found in some newer smartphones, but unless you are a technology enthusiast, you should still find the performance pleasing.

The HTC Wildfire S is available now on various UK networks with several offering the handset for free.
