The Samsung Galaxy S2 has recently topped sales charts, making the Korean manufacturer the best selling smartphone manufacturer in the world. In this article I will take a look at a couple of the key features of this popular device, so you can decide if you want to join the ever expanding ranks of Galaxy S2 owners.
Operating System
The Samsung Galaxy S2 utilises the Android OS (version 2.3), which is proving wildly popular, with various manufacturers like Samsung, Motorola and HTC including it on most of their new smartphones. It allows users to include their own UI, of which Samsung has TouchWiz. It also includes Android Market, which allows users to browse hundreds of thousands of apps, which can be downloaded directly to the phone, much like Apple’s AppStore.
Camera
One of the most important aspects of choosing a new smartphone is the camera. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has an 8 megapixel camera, which results in very good quality still images. The resolution of 3264x 2448 means that the resulting images have very food levels of detail and clarity. The camera is also capable of capturing 1080p video footage. The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S2 has a great list of included features; including face & smile detection, touch focus, image stabilisation autofocus and LED flash. This is thanks to both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity and capable web browsing applications. To connect to the internet in areas with 3G coverage, the Samsung Galaxy S2 calls upon an HSDPA connection which provides a whopping 21 megabytes per second download speed. This is faster than most other smartphones, including the HTC Sensation XE and the iPhone 4S. Wi-Fi offers the alternative connection method and simply requires the appropriate access details to connect to wireless networks where users can enjoy faster speeds and less battery without worrying about how much of their data allowance they are using.
There are of course many other impressive specifications found on the Samsung Galaxy S2. These include a dual-core processor, which powers several aspects of the hardware and software. A high resolution super AMOLED plus capacitive touchscreen and generous 16 GB of internal storage (with expandable micro SD memory) are also included, making it very clear why this is such a popular phone.
