The Excellent Samsung Galaxy Nexus And The Nexus S-Screen Technology And Processing Power

The Samsung Galaxy range of mobile handsets offers a number of high quality devices at various price points to suit all types of consumer. The first model in the range that was ever released was the Samsung Galaxy S, a phone which at its time of release was ahead of the competition in terms of specification. The latest model in the Galaxy family is the superb Nexus device so we thought it might be interesting to see how the range has evolved and look at how the two models differ.
Although it is now two years old the Samsung Galaxy S offers some specification which still compares well against many modern handsets. The phone uses a 4 inch Super AMOLED display which is capable of displaying a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. At the time of release this screen was far superior to many of the phones rivals and still produces vivid images with great viewing angles that can be easily viewed in sunlight, something that can not be said of many S-LCD screens. This super AMOLED technology was so impressive that Samsung opted to continue to use the screens in future premium phones and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the very latest model to offer this type of display. Being two years younger than the original handset the Nexus does sport some improvements in this area with the main one being a boost in resolution. The screen on this new model can display 720 x 1280 pixels which makes it one of the highest resolutions currently available. The size of the screen has also been increased to 4.65 inches. When we look at what both models can offer in terms of pixel density the Galaxy Nexus is capable of showing 316 pixels per inch compared with the 233PPI available on the original Galaxy S.
Since the Galaxy S was launched we have seen a number of improvements in mobile technology especially when you look at the processing power of modern phones. In the last 12 months we have seen dual core technology introduced on many devices and as you would expect the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus includes this type of chip. The 1.2Ghz processor is incredibly fast and is partnered by a powerful PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit that ensures all visuals on the handset look as stunning as possible. The Galaxy S makes use of a single core 1Ghz Hummingbird processor which was the fastest available at its time of release and still performs at a great speeds today. The model also uses the same GPU as the Nexus which demonstrates just how advanced this model was when it was launched. The 512MB of RAM memory offered on the original phone has been doubled to 1GB on the new Nexus which means that the phone is well equipped to handle any future developments in technology.
Two years after its launch the Samsung Galaxy S is still a phone that offers fast performance and beautiful visuals from the high quality screen that it uses. The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus offers improvements in nearly every area and is currently one of the leading devices on the market.
