The Samsung Galaxy Nexus And The Lumia 800 Both Offer Great Camera Features

The beginning of 2012 has seen the release of two new premium handsets for the Android and Windows operating systems. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the newest Android offering and looks set to follow on from the successful Galaxy S2. The new Lumia range has been launched by Nokia with the top model being the impressive Lumia 800. Previously we took a look at design and screen performance on both models so now we se how the models compare for processing power and media features.

Both of these two models offer awesome processing power which is what we expect from flagship models from two of the leading brands available. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus makes use of a 1.2Ghz dual core processor to ensure that operation on the handset is very fast. This impressive ARM Cortex A9 chip runs alongside a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 chipset which also incorporates a very powerful PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit. As this model is the flagship model for the Google ICS operating system Samsung have worked very closely with Google to have the device fine tuned and optimised to make the most of the new platform. The result of this is a phone that his hard to beat for performance. The Nokia Lumia 800 uses a single core processor but one that is very fast at 1.4Ghz. The Qualcomm Scorpion chip has been optimised just like the Nexus processor and performs at an incredible pace. This processor is part of the MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset which also boasts a high quality graphics processing unit in the shape of the Adreno 205 chip. Although both of these models perform admirably the Galaxy Nexus proves the more impressive especially when handling demanding games titles.

On paper there seems to be quite a stark contrast between the camera facilities offered on both models but it only goes to prove just how misleading technical specification can be. At a glance the Nokia should come out on top in this department thanks to an 8 mega pixel resolution and the use of high quality Carl Zeiss optics. In practice the photographs are good but not of the high standard that we expected. The model does impress however with the features that accompany the camera. Auto focus, touch focus and a digital zoom are all present to help you achieve the best possible final results. When looking at the camera specification for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus it all seems very basic until you actually use the facility and see the super final results. The 5 mega pixel resolution images look superb thanks to some great quality optics and a wealth of features including face detection, white balance control and touch focus. Both models do offer high definition video capture at 1080P resolution but in fairness neither phone lives up to the high standards that are set in this area by models like the White iPhone 4S.

In summary it is fair to say that both the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Lumia 800 offer unrivalled performance but both disappoint slightly when it comes to the multi media features that they offer.
