An Overview Of What Specifications We Might Anticipate To See From The Apple iPhone 5

In 2012, one of the major smartphone releases will be the Apple iPhone 5. Many were expecting to see it released in 2011, but we were instead introduced to the iPhone 4S. This bought a number of impressive features to consumers, such as Siri, an upgraded camera and new version of iOS.
In this article I will take a look at what specifications we can expect to see from the iPhone 5 when it is released, probably in summer 2012 if previous iPhone releases are anything to go by.
Processor
The world’s first dual-core powered smartphone (LG Optimus 2X) was released in 2011, and there is already talks of quad-core powered devices in development from Samsung and HTC. If Apple does not match the competition it will probably go one better. With the iPhone 5, I predict that we will see either a dual-core processor like that of the iPhone 4S but probably with a bigger chip than the 1GHz one found in the iPhone 4S. Or we will see a quad-core processor, which other manufacturers are rumoured to be developing as we speak, ready for devices for a 2012 release. Of course the benefits of a powerful processor are well known. Many areas of a phone’s performance rely on a capable processor, and phones such as the iPhone 5 will take full advantage of this. This is because we can expect to see more demanding software and applications, as well as extra requirements from the hardware like a higher screen resolution and maybe a more powerful camera.
Camera
The iPhone 4S saw an 8 megapixel camera introduced to the winning formula of the iPhone 4. This came with the ability to shoot HD video footage in 1080p, as a wider aperture to capture more light per pixel for a sharper and brighter image. These days, an 8 megapixel camera is the standard for most smartphones, but only a year ago, high end devices only came with a 5 megapixel unit with one or two exceptions. Therefore, we might see a higher resolution camera, or it may stick with the 8 megapixel offering with a few tweaks and added extras. It also goes without saying that the camera on the iPhone 5 will come with LED flash, and 1080p video recording. It would not surprise me of we see more multimedia compatibility options; such as wireless streaming to compatible digital TVs.
Whatever specs it has, the iPhone 5 is sure to impress, and we will no doubt see the by now familiar sight of fans queuing up overnight to get their hands on it. The competition such as Samsung and HTC are sure to offer up alternatives, which will cater to those who prefer Android or Windows Phone powered devices.
