A Review Of The Key Specs Of The Stylish HTC Explorer

The HTC Explorer is the latest budget smartphone from the prolific smartphone manufacturer. It has a number of impressive key features, which I will explain further in this article.

The front of the HTC Explorer is dominated by a 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen. This can display up to 256,000 individual colours and has a resolution of 320x 480. This may not be the most advanced screen out there, but it is certainly capable of displaying photos and videos in god levels of clarity and quality.

The HTC Explorer comes with a modest 90MB of user available storage as standard, but there is also a micro SD slot included. Users can therefore install a memory card of up to 32GB, which is sure to suit the needs of most users. This can comfortably accommodate thousands of music tracks, as well as numerous videos, applications, documents and photos.

As an internet browsing device, the HTC Explorer is not too dissimilar to some of its higher end stablemates. Like the HTC Sensation and Desire HD, the Explorer provides data download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps in areas with 3G coverage. This is actually higher than some high end rival smartphone like the iPhone 4, which has 7.2 Mbps data download speeds. This figure is responsible for the speeds at which data is downloaded from websites, as well how smoothly YouTube videos and other streaming media plays. Wi-Fi provides the alternative means of internet browsing, thanks to local wireless networks. The bonus of Wi-Fi usage is that it does not use up your data allowance which is useful if you have such restrictions on your tariff.

As you may expect, the HTC Explorer comes equipped with a digital camera, in this case a 3.15 megapixel offering. Unless you are a technology enthusiast, this is sure to suit your needs. It may not provide the high pixel count and HD video of many other smartphones, but it is easy to use and generally produces pleasing results so is sure to fit the bill if you only take photos with your phone occasionally. It can also shoot video footage in 480p, which is reasonable quality for a phone with such an affordable price tag.

As you can see from the features outlined above, the HTC Explorer is a decent all round smartphone. Throw into the mix a 600 MHz processor, the latest version of the Android OS (v2.3, aka Gingerbread) and the innovative HTC Sense UI, and you will see that you actually get a lot for your money. The HTC Explorer is available on major UK networks now, with several offering the handset for free on selected tariffs.
